Saxon Tower, Earls Barton

This vintage postcard doesn't have a date on the back but the stamp is a green halfpenny King George V one which I think dates from 1912 to around 1921.

The front of the postcard features a black and white photo of the Saxon tower at Earls Barton church in Northamptonshire. On the back is a long message that reads:

"Sat night. Dear Ida, there is a flood here tonight near our house. I had an awful fright last Tues morn: a letter from the war office.

I simply tore it open and read that Tom was in Mudros Hospital with hepatitis (inflammation of the liver.) However I've had two letters from him since & he is at a convalescent camp - nothing to do but read. He reads a novel every day + wants to go back to camp. Perhaps he is back now - the last letter was Nov 14th. He was at Mudros only one day. Nov 4th slept in sheets for the 1st time then.

Will write soon love to all M."

Mudros was a camp based on the Greek island of Lemnos, which was established in 1915.

The postcard is addressed to Miss I. Corner at Rudstone, Bridlington, Yorkshire.
